Anno Codicis · Vol. IXScriptorium Open

We are the
quiet craftsmen
of your
software.

We're engineers in the old tradition — patient, and a little obsessive. We build software that's still standing years later.

I. On the Order

An order sworn to discipline,
not to deadlines.

Bytes Monks builds software and AI systems. We read the problem before we write the answer, and most of what we ship is still running.

II. The Four Disciplines

Four arts, one rule.

I
Oath of this Discipline
To make machines think, and keep them honest.

We build LLM agents, CV-matching pipelines, and automation that runs without a babysitter.

III. The Rule of the Order

Four precepts, kept in order.

Every project passes through all four, in order. Skipping a step always costs more later.

I

Audiamus

We understand

We read the problem before we write anything. Then we write down what we heard, so you can tell us where we got it wrong.

In practice
Discovery · architecture mapping · written RFC
II

Disponamus

We architect

We draw the system before we build it. Every boundary and dependency gets a name and a written reason for being there.

In practice
System design · data modeling · ADRs
III

Scribamus

We build

We write the code slowly, on purpose. Tests before conclusions, reviews before merges — and you see every piece as it ships.

In practice
Iterative builds · rigorous tests · clean code
IV

Custodiamus

We keep vigil

Launch isn't the end. We keep watching, and we pick up the phone at 3am when production is on fire.

In practice
Observability · performance · long-term partnership
V. The Chronicles

Works already entered into the book.

Three entries from a longer volume. Real work, real numbers.

The Migration of the Cloud

A faltering infrastructure, moved stone by stone to a new foundation.

LXXX
% faster queries
αProblem

Their OVH setup couldn't scale and had no safe way to deploy. Production was one bad night from going down.

βSolution

We moved everything to Azure, with backups and GitHub Actions pipelines per environment. The database went to PostgreSQL and we tuned the slow queries.

γImpact

Queries run up to 80% faster. Deploys happen with no downtime, in every environment.

A Platform for Young Readers

A children's learning platform, kept alive and growing for its young pupils.

C
% uptime
αProblem

A children's learning app was outgrowing its infrastructure. It also needed an admin panel and a game backend that could keep up.

βSolution

We built and still run the cloud infrastructure, with automated backups. We also built the admin panel and the game's backend.

γImpact

The platform keeps up as the user base grows. The team can see what is happening and fix it from the admin panel.

03.Ars Intelligentia
Anno MMXXV

The Expert Agent

An artificial scribe, reasoning over its master's own books.

AI
full-stack agent
αProblem

Users wanted an AI assistant that actually knew their own documents. It also had to handle payments, transcription and analytics.

βSolution

We built an AI Co-Pilot that answers from each user's own knowledge base. Around it: CI/CD, database backups, transcription, payments and analytics.

γImpact

It shipped to production with the automation in place. Users now ask their own books a question instead of digging through files.

IV. Our Vows

Eight vows
we keep.

We say these when you hire us. We re-read them before every release.

Start Your Project →
01

Senior hands only

No juniors learning on your budget. Everyone who touches your code has been burned before.

02

AI as first principle

We plan for AI from the first meeting. Bolting it on afterwards never works well.

03

Architecture that ages well

We build for your company three years from now. A rewrite usually means someone guessed wrong early.

04

Rapid, not rushed

Fast iteration cycles with honest feedback. Urgency without panic.

05

Clear speech at all times

No black boxes, no weasel words. You always know where the work stands.

06

We stay

Partnerships outlast contracts. If your product grows, so does our involvement.

07

Code read as prose

If the next engineer can't read it, we rewrite it. Docs are a kindness, not a chore.

08

Vigil through the night

Production doesn't care what time it is. Neither do we when something is burning.

VI. Epistles
